Happy early birthday, Kiana!

On Sunday, Lauren went all out and put together an early birthday party for Kiana (the first of two - another at home still waiting for her)! Ashley (Lauren's sister in law on the other side of the family) brought a roast, Lauren made two kinds of vegan cupcakes, as well as tons of other food, and decorated the house with "happy birthday" signs and hats. Kiana LOVED the entire event, and sang herself "Happy Do-Day, Nana" (Happy Birthday, Kiana) for days afterward! Her favorites were the peanut butter chocolate cupcakes ("bown uns!" [brown ones]), which she devoured. She also loved the books, hula dolls, rock-star dolls, and cute outfits (especially the ones in her favorite color "boo" [blue]) from Nana, Pop-pop, Uncle Chris, Aunt Lauren, cousin Allie, and Uncle Jon-Michael and Auntie Frances. We all had a wonderful time!
It was a wonderful way to end our visit: & I can't wait till our next chance to visit Hawaii!!!!!

More Hawaii

On Tuesday, the rest of the family started arriving, and the real family reunion began! Jon-Michael got in Tuesday, Frances got in Wednesday, my dad (Pop pop) got in Thursday, and my mom (Nana) got in Friday, and everyone stayed together over the long weekend. Chris & Lauren took off the last couple days of the week, so we all got to really hang out and enjoy relaxing together. It was great!

During the days, we went to the beach and explored the island. At night, the kids got used to falling asleep on Chris & Lauren's couch, and getting carried home to bed still snoozing. Aidan was amazing about the water: by the end of the trip, he was even boogie boarding with me!!!! and he had a lot of fun playing in the white wash, even though he is still just working on his doggie-paddle. Kiana, on the other hand, was adamant that the water was too "dold" (cold) (it WAS much colder than her bathwater at home!) but she was very happy to play in the sand at the beaches.

We checked out Waimanalo (didn't swim because of man-o-war warnings), snorkled at Hanauma Bay (I even saw a Humuhumunukunukuapua'a! - the Hawaiian state fish!), saw the Halona Blowhole, built a sand-boat and sand castles, climbed trees, and went swimming and boogie boarding. We also had some fun bigger events:  we saw white-tipped reef sharks (like Aidan's special "Todd R" stuffed shark) at the Waikiki Aquarium, saw AMAZING dolphins at Sea Life Park (these reinforced Aidan's determination, with me, to be a dolphin if either of us were going to be something other than human) (we also saw a turtle there named Kiana!), and on our last day, Alex and Aidan visited the U.S.S. Arizona at Pearl Harbor. The kids also loved just playing on the play structure in Chris & Lauren's backyard, and goofing off with Nana, Pop-pop, and all of the Ross clan. It was just absolutely wonderful!
